Social Anxiety Disorder Symptoms

How to know if you have social anxiety disorder?  The symptoms for this condition are pretty much the same on every person who suffers it.  To start you must get to know what you are feeling once you are in a social situation.

Symptoms can be divided in:

  1. Behavioural symptoms

  2. Emotional symptoms

  3. Physical signs and symptoms

Let’s take a look at them

Emotional and Behavioural Social Anxiety Disorder Symptoms

These are symptoms that relate to the way you feel and the way you act.  They include:

  1. An unexplainable fear when surrounded by people you don’t know

  2. An anxiety that ends up affecting your daily life and chores

  3. Fear that others notice your anxiety

  4. Fear of being judged by other people

  5. Worrying about making mistakes in fear of humiliation.

  6. Fear of speaking to people, specially unknown people

  7. Avoiding being the center of attention (like in public speaking and presentations)

Physical Social Anxiety Disorder Symptoms

These are symptoms that manifest in your body.  This doesn’t mean sufferers have all of this at the same time, but they have predominant physical signs and a few of the others for the most part.  These include shaking, excessive sweating, blushing, having an upset stomach, talking difficulties, muscular tension, heart pounding, diarrhea, difficulty making eye contact, confusion, clammy hands.

It is a good idea to be observant of yourself when determining the level of social anxiety you have.

Other Considerations When Looking for Symptoms

The social anxiety disorder brings other characteristics to people who suffer it. It is well known that sufferers have problems with self-esteem, are prone to be depressed, induce in negative self-talk and mental imagery, have poor social skills, and can’t stand well any type of criticism.
